The Barney Mysteries

Mystery of ... ( Original title: The Barney Mystery's ) is a children's book series by Enid Blyton. The six original books, often referred to as Barney 'R' Mysteries, published between 1949 and 1959. Titles all started with an "R ". In Germany, published in 1961 eight volumes. Volume 7 mystery of the deep cellar is a description of the individual story The Mystery That Never Was (1961) and not part of the Mystery series. For Volume 8 mystery of the counterfeiter (1977 ) document is not to reason. This is probably a Eigenwerk the translator Brigitte Blobel. Characters

• Robert (14 years in band 1) and Dina Lynton (13 years in band 1) are siblings. They both go to boarding school and only seeing each other during the holidays.
• Stubs, actually Peter, so named because of its snub nose (11 years in Volume 1 ), is the cousin of the two. His parents have died, so that he always has to be one of his aunts during the holidays. When Robert and Dina likes him best. He likes to annoy others, such as Dina, his teachers and other people. He is very happy and doing so, as if he was very brave, though he is not. He is intelligent but very lazy at school.
• Barny (actually Barnabas Hugo Lorimer; 14-15 years in Volume 1) ( First) parentless. His mother was three months after the marriage of his father, an actor, and worked away again on a circus. Barny grew up in the belief that his father was dead until shortly before his mother's death, she told him about his father, a Shakespearean actor. Barny still does not know the name of his father, as his mother had reverted to her birth name. So Barny goes looking for his father and works at circuses and fairs, to earn his livelihood. If it is near Robert and Dina, they meet. In Volume 4 mystery surrounding a secret harbor then he finally finds his father, Barnabas Martin.
• Lout is the dog of stubs, a black spaniel. He lives up to its name all honor and abducted every shoe and every hairbrush.
• Miranda is the ape of Barny. You can do many tricks.
• Miss Pepper is the old, very short-sighted educator of Robert and Dina's mother, with whom they travel and sometimes stubs. It is known that she winks behind her thick glasses.

Content of each volume

Mystery surrounding the abandoned house (1949 )

Because their parents travel, the siblings Robert and Dina spend the holidays together with her cousin Miss stubs and pepper in a rented cottage in Rocking Down. A tutor, Mr. King, is to help them to make up for because of scarlet fever at Easter missed school curriculum. In her free time she learn Barny and his monkey Miranda know. Barney, whose mother died last year, keeps up with odd jobs at circuses afloat. He is looking for his father, from whom he only knows that he is an actor. In their explorations of the environment they discover the empty Rocking Down mansion, sometimes strange noises coming from the basement. Smugglers use the basement as a temporary storage for their goods, which they transport on the nearby river. Barney is discovered while exploring the underground passages of the smugglers and imprisoned. After Robert and the other children first suspected Mr. King as agents of smugglers, they discover that he is a detective. Miranda can Robert, stubs and Dina convey a message of Barny and informing them of his capture. With the help of the children, it is possible the police and Mr. King to free Barny.

Mystery of the forbidden cave (1959 )

Robert and Dina want to spend with her mother and Miss Pepper the holiday in a motorhome. When her sister, Aunt Pat accident, Mrs. Lynton drives away, to look after her sister and brother in law. Fortunately, Barney's father, Mr. Martin, that the children by car to drive to a beautiful place on the coast of Wales, where they can spend their holidays under the care of Miss Pepper. In an attempt to explore the content of the hidden chests, they are indeed surprised by the invading flood, but they manage the ascent through a shaft, which ends in the room of Miss Pepper. Finally, the police arrested the two men, the fishermen involved and provides the stolen money in the boxes safely. With this volume the series finds " mystery around " in the original to an end.
