The Battle Rages On ... is the 14th studio album by Deep Purple. It was released in July 1993 BMG Records (worldwide ) and Giant Records (USA).

History

The album is the last one with the classic Mk II line-up, who had reunited for the second time. 1984 Perfect Strangers was recorded in this lineup. Singer Ian Gillan, who had returned to the band in late 1992 after his departure in 1989 - after the previous album with Joe Lynn Turner was included - revised the material that had already been written for the album. Ritchie Blackmore left the band on the tour in November 1993 - Joe Satriani stepped in as a temporary replacement.

Reception

The website Allmusic awarded 2 of 5 stars. William Ruhlmann noted that in 1993 there is no market for the music of Deep Purple was available. The songs were partially closer to Def Leppard than Deep Purple have been.
