The Blockade Runners

The blockade runner (also The blockade - breaker ) is a short story by the French writer Jules Verne. The short story was first established in October 1865 under the French title Études de moeurs contemporaines. Les forceurs de blocus published in the journal Musée des Familles. Action

The story describes the emergence of the then modern steamship Dolphin. This was built at the expense of the Confederate States of America ( southern states ) in Glasgow, Scotland. The client is the shipowner Vincent Playfair. In the Civil War there was a naval blockade off the coast of the southern states. The blockade brought the cotton trade to a virtual standstill. The Dolphin runs from the port of Charleston, South Carolina, with a cargo of cotton, in order to break the blockade. In exchange, they bring weapons back for the Confederate Army in the southern states. Meanwhile, there is a love romance between James Playfair, who is the son of the owner Vincent Playfair and Mrs. Jenny Halliburtt. Jenny influenced by her relationship with James the objective of the activities of the ship in a positive way.
