The Bread Knife ( bread knife ) is a volcanic dyke of trachyte in Northern New South Wales in Australia. The dyke in the Warrumbungle National Park, which originated in the Miocene, reaching a height of nearly 100 m, is several meters wide and 600 m long. Such a geological formation is very rare. The nearest town is 30 km away place Coonabarabran.

The Bread Knife is part of an active shield volcano, which erupted in the period before 17-13 million years ago. This volcano formed the Warrumbungle Range, which was about 1000 meters high and is now largely eroded. The Bread Knife was formed by red-hot magma that solidified into soft rock and a harder and more durable layer formed as the surrounding rock. As the soft rock weathered, the Bread Knife was exposed basalt.

For Bread Knife is a walking path from the parking lot at Pincham Pirey Creek along, which takes about five hours and easier to climb to the foot of the mountain itself by fixed climbing aids. Walking on this famous mountain in Australia is very popular, but the climbing is prohibited.

Nearby are other mountains like Crater Bluff, Bluff Mountain, Belougery Spire and Balor Peak.
