The Champs

The Champs were an American rock band that was founded in the mid -1950s in California.

In 1957, the group from changing studio musicians got by guitarist Dave Burgess her first recording contract. In 1958 she had her debut single, the instrumental title Tequila, a worldwide million-seller, who finished alone in America five weeks the first place of the charts and was the first hit of popular music a Grammy ( for best rhythm-and - blues - plate of the year ) received.

Had written this song Danny Flores ( under the pseudonym Chuck Rio), the saxophonist of the band, which also calls in the play the distinctive cry of " Tequila! ". The second title El Rancho skirt came only at number 30, and Flores decided to continue as a soloist. He was replaced by Jimmy Seals, Dash Crofts as the drummer brought.

The big hits were for the Champs after 1958 though, and the group broke up in 1966, Seals & Crofts, however, remained together and formed from 1970 a highly successful soft rock duo, with songs like Summer Breeze (1972 ), Diamond Girl (1973 ) and Get Closer ( 1976) Top Ten hits in the U.S. had.

Danny Flores Tequila played more than four decades. The song appeared again and again in commercials. Flores died on 18 September 2006 from the effects of pneumonia.
