The Chi-Lites

The Chi- Lites were an American vocal group that was successful in the first half of the 1970s.

Band History

The band was founded in 1961, initially as a trio in Chicago / Illinois by Marshall Thompson. The big breakthrough came in the mid-1960s. Firstly, a taxi driver named Eugene Record applied as the new lead singer, on the other hand got quartet which has now become a record contract.

The first LP was released in 1968 and was called Give It Away. The title song from their second album Give More Power to the People 1971 should bring the first great success. The single reached number 26 of the U.S. single charts. Their next single release on Have You Seen Her reached # 3 on the pop charts and stayed two weeks at the top of the R & B charts. With the title of Oh Girl they reached in May 1972 for a week, the top of the U.S. singles chart. Two weeks was the single at the top of the R & B charts. It get them two more Top 40 hits: A Letter To Myself and Stoned Out Of My Mind in 1973 Although they still had some to 1975 rankings on the American pop charts, but mostly landed her singles in the bottom quarter of the charts..

By 1976, the vocal group was very successful especially in England.

A new version of their song Homely Girl 1990 was a hit for the British reggae lineup UB40.
