The Chinese Room (stylized as thechineseroom ) is an independent game developer based in Brighton (England). Senior developers are Dan Pinchbeck and Jessica Curry. Mainly, the team focuses on the development of modifications and extensions of successful games brands, including Half-Life 2 or Doom 3 Known The Chinese Room was their adventure game Dear Esther, which since its release on 14 February 2012 exclusively positive reviews received by the press and was praised especially for the unusual game mechanics. The commercial title Dear Esther is a graphically enhanced remake of an eponymous Half-Life 2 modification from 2009, both use the Source Engine by Valve.
