The Cleftones

The Cleftones are an American doo-wop vocal group, which celebrated primarily in the 1950s and 1960s successes. Her hits include Little Girl of Mine, Cant We Be Sweethearts and Heart And Soul.

Career

The Cleftones were founded in 1955 by Herbie Cox, Berman Patterson, Warren Corbin, Charlie James and William " Buzzy " McClain at Jamaica High School in Queens, New York.

After being rejected by three record labels, they received on November 19, 1955 signed a contract with George Goldner's Gee label, where they were allowed to bring with Gee # 1000 out the first panel of the label. The first single You Baby You, published in November 1955, sold well at first. The second single Little Girl of Mine from March 1956 gave the group the national breakthrough. In April, she appeared with many trendy bands and performers at Alan Freed's " Easter Jubilee of Stars " show in New York and now belonged to the stars of the R & B scene. It was followed by Cant We Be Sweethearts in June 1956 another hit. After the success subsided. A change in record company in 1958 did not change this, especially since they had remained in the same group. McClain and Patterson left the group.

1961, the second generation of the Cleftones, consisting of Herb Cox, Charlie James, Warren Corbin, Gene Pearson and Patricia Spann, with Heart and Soul again a top hit ( number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts ). By 1962 there were some publications, but the great success failed. Even after that, there was until after the turn of the millennium occasional appearances by the Cleftones, and since 1990, also again recordings.
