The Congregation
The ( English) Congregation was a British popular vocal group consisting of Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway (also known as song writers ) and John Burgess and Brian Keith.
Group
For their biggest hit parade success Softly Whispering I Love You (1971 UK No. 4 1972 D # 10, U.S. # 29 ) translated "The Congregation " a mixed ninety -member choir and an orchestra one. Her publications in the U.S. and Canada were sold under the name "The English Congregation " because it was feared confusion with The Mike Curb Congregation.
The song became a million-seller and is a classic one hit wonder. However, the authors Cook and Greenaway had recorded the song in 1967 under her former stage name of David & Jonathan. Even singer Keith had made the late 60s already had some experience as a singer with Plastic Penny ( Everything I Am).
The group released a handful of singles and even two LPs, but had no appreciable success more. Only the follow-up single Jesahel 1972 was beyond top 40 placings something known. The song was originally recorded by the Italian formation delirium in some European countries a club hit.
For live performances or tours has been designed as a mere studio project formation was much too large. After a few unsuccessful single releases, the project sparked again in 1973.
