The ConstruKction of Light is the twelfth studio album by the English progressive rock band King Crimson. It was released in May 2000 with Robert Fripp's Discipline Global Mobile label and Virgin Records.

Creation and publication

Fripp ended in 1999 working with the so-called ProjeKcts 1-4, as Bill Bruford and Tony Levin. Fripp only worked with Adrian Belew, Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto on. With this lineup King Crimson played again after five years a studio album a. The same formation also published in 2000 as ProjeKct X the album Heaven and Earth, whose title track is included on The ConstruKction of Light.

Style

King Crimson unite on the album features all the creative periods of the band as well as income of the work in the ProjeKcts. It also found influences of blues, minimal music and Eastern European classical music. The ConstruKction of Light is structurally complex, with shifting rhythms and many entangled or opposing guitars. In addition to the references to other albums, there are some cross-references and references within The ConstruKction of Light. The album sounds darker and harder than previous works of the band.

Reception

The reactions to the album were largely positive. Jason Nickey of Allmusic Although it is too backward looking and Jörg Schumann of the Baby Blue Pages criticized it as monotonous, " uninspired and unloving runtergeleiert ". For Udo Gerhards, however, " this album is not a profiteer nostalgia trip, because for the textures are sharp, the polyrhythms too confusing and uncompromising and the mood somber. It happens incredibly much; and therefore makes this album especially when listening carefully yet fun ". Nik Brükner sums it up: " This album contains with the hardest -to-play music I have ever heard. [ ...] I am rarely effusive, but here is my opinion [ ... ] an absolute masterpiece of the genre before. "This music magazine eclipsed took The ConstruKction of Light on its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
