The Critic (film)

The Critic is an American animated short film directed by Ernest Pintoff from the year 1963.

Action

For harpsichord music are different geometrical figures to see which rearrange to merge, form patterns and are replaced by new figures. Some are representational, some do not, identifiziertbar.

An older gentleman commented on the showings. He complains that he has paid two U.S. dollars admission to see this remarkable film, and tries to assign the figures known to him things. In some objects he suspects lips, in other cockroaches, again in other operations "Sex between things ", which of course can not be shown open as it would come to jail. Again and again he notes that what is shown is just garbage - multiple other viewers ask him to be quiet - and concludes with the finding that this even if he understood little of psychoanalysis, a grimy film was ("I ' d say, this is a dirty picture " ).

Production

The idea for the film came from Mel Brooks, who also speaks the critics. It was the first feature film, was involved in the Mel Brooks.

The abstract animation of the film comes from Bob Heath.

Awards

The Critic won the 1964 Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ".

In 1964, The Critic was also awarded a British Film Academy Award for best animated film.
