The Dears is a Canadian indie rock band. It was founded in 1995 in Montreal.

The driving force behind the band is the lead singer Murray Lightburn. Lightburn surrounds the reputation of being a perfectionist. This led to numerous line-up changes within the band. He is now the only remaining founding member. In the current squatting beside Lightburn still Rob Benvie, George Donoso, Valerie Jodoin - Keaton, Martin Pelland and Natalia Yanchak play with The Dears.

The band's style is heavily European influenced and reminiscent of recordings by The Smiths, Serge Gainsbourg and Joy Division.

The debut album by the band End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story was released in 2000. Between 2001 and 2002, the EPs Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique and Protest, as well as a compilation of previously unreleased songs followed.

2004 appeared the second studio album by the band. With the single release Lost in the Plot The Dears reached in November 2004 with number 49 for the first time the UK Singles Chart. In the Independent Charts, the single even climbed to number 4.
