The Dooleys

The Dooleys were an English pop band of the 1970s and 1980s.

Band History

Under the name "The Dooley Family" the six originating from Ilford Siblings Jim, John, Frank, Marie, Anne and Kathy Dooley began in the late 1960s with their performances. Since 1973 they have been resident in Salford, and the night club scene around Manchester was the center of their sphere.

At this time Marie different from the group, while bassist Bob Walsh and drummer Alan Bogan to come. In 1974 she received her first recording contract and took the first two singles.

Achievements

1975 undertook "The Dooley Family" a tour of Eastern Europe and entered into Moscow on 29 October. The album at this live appearance was sold over 2 million copies. From 1976, they called themselves "The Dooleys " and had their first major success in 1977 with Think I'm Gonna Fall In Love With You, with whom she came to number 13 in the UK charts.

In 1978, joined the youngest family member Helen Dooley. The Dooleys toured Europe and the Far East. Her biggest hit Wanted 1979 reached # 3 on the British charts in August. Similar to several other European pop bands this time, the accentuated glamor and elegance, they had particularly great success in Japan, where they performed in 1980 on the Tokyo Music Festival.

With The Chosen Few they succeeded in their home another top ten hit. In the Federal Republic of Germany, they remained almost unknown, 1982, they were seen with And I Wish in the show Musikladen. This is the only title reached the German charts.

Crisis resolution and Start-up

Anne Dooley and Bob Walsh left after her marriage, as well as Helen Dooley the group. New members were the singer Vicki Roe and bassist Gaz Morgan. In the 80s, the popularity of the Dooleys subsided noticeably, and in the middle of the decade, John, Frank and Alan left the band to start a year later with the newly added Karen and Amanda "The New Dooleys ". Jim and Kathy Dooley went on and were now accompanied by Ian Sudworth, Dave Riley, Paul Dean and Pete Whinnett. In March 1987, Paul Dean and Dave Riley left the Dooleys and were replaced by Phil Brown and Nigel Parrott. In December 1987, Pete Whinnett left the group in favor of the new member Martin. 1988 retired from Vicki Roe, 1990 Phil Brown.

Both groups had compared to the past only modest success. 1991 were the Dooleys on B.P. Club Hedon Road for the last time on stage. In 2007, Jim, John and Frank gave under the name The Dooley Brothers Band out a collection of new songs.
