The Drums

The Drums is an American music band from Brooklyn, New York. The members come in part from the predecessor band Elkland. With the label Moshi Moshi The band is under contract.

Band History

The band members Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham met each other already as a student in a summer camp know. As a teenager, they formed the electro-pop duo Goat Explosion, which however did not last and in 2003 disbanded. While Graham appeared with the indie pop group Horse Shoes, Pierce founded with Adam Kessler group Elkland. This was at Columbia Records and took effect in 2005 with the album Golden in appearance.

2008 Pierce and Graham met each other again and decided to make music together again. After she had moved to New York City, Kessler and a short time Connor Hanwick joined them later. In the fall of 2009, they released the EP Summertime. A short time later called the BBC in its nomination list for the BBC Sound of 2010, the group as one of the most promising artists of 2010.

In September 2010, Adam Kessler left the band, but it is continued by the other three members. In autumn 2011, the second studio album Portamento has been published.

Style

Critics characterize the style of The Drums as a mixture of '50s Surfpop and the sound of Manchester - The Factory Records bands and The Smiths. Singer Pierce takes vocally bonds with Marc Almond, in his performance, he is also a similarity to Ian Curtis, singer of Joy Division, rumored. The melodies of the songs refer to Soft Cell and the Beach Boys.
