The English Theatre of Hamburg

The English Theatre of Hamburg is a professional English-speaking theater in Hamburg. The privately owned house was founded in 1976 by two Americans and is the oldest English-speaking theater in Germany.

History and Program

The stage was set up in 1976 by ​​the Americans Robert Hull and Clifford Dean. Together they lead the theater, plan the artistic program and perform in many productions directed.

The English Theatre is subsidized by the Hamburg Department of Culture, is a nonprofit organization and a member of the German Theatre Association.

The program runs from September to June and presented pieces in the original English. A season at the English theater usually consists of an American or British drama of the traditional way and the modern, a comedy, a thriller and a contemporary piece. There are one hundred sixty seats. In addition, the theater offers schools in and around Hamburg to free teaching materials for each piece; in demand discussions with the director and the actors are offered after a performance.

Building and Theatre Equipment

Since 1981, the theater has its headquarters in Lerch field 14 on the Mundsburg. The building previously housed the Hammonia bath, a swimming pool, and is since 1977 under monument protection.
