The First Man

The First Man ( Le premier homme French ) is a 1994 posthumously published, unfinished novel of the Algerian- French writer and philosopher Albert Camus.

Content

In the center of the completed parts of the text is the search for identity of the Algerian Frenchman Jacques Cormery who wants to deal with this through the reconstruction of his family history and his own spent in the colony childhood. The way the novel narrated memories have strong parallels to Camus ' own biography. Not least because the text has been interpreted often biographical. Plausible but are also post-colonial existence and philosophical approaches to interpretation.

Background

The unfinished manuscript of the novel was in 1960 at the site of the fatal car accident Albert Camus found '. His daughter Catherine Camus had a long time refused to publish the work remained a fragment, not least because of the strongly autobiographical character of the text that would have been potentially reduced in the final version.

Originally from Algeria actor Jean -Paul Schintu 2013 presented his interpretation of the text at the Avignon Festival.
