The Five-Year Engagement

Nearly married is an American feature film from director Nicholas Stoller in the year 2012 with Jason Segel and Emily Blunt in the lead roles.

Action

Tom Solomon and Violet Barnes live in San Francisco. He works as a deputy chef at a trendy restaurant. Exactly one year after the two have met at a New Year's party, Tom Violet makes a proposal of marriage, which she accepts. Tom and Violet begin to plan the wedding.

After the engagement party of Tom and Violet spend Tom's best friend and colleague Alex and Violet's sister Suzie unexpectedly the night together. Later Suzie confesses that she is pregnant by Alex. Even before the baby is born to marry Alex and Suzie.

Violet has studied psychology in the last eight years and now eagerly awaits the response of universities to which it has submitted an application to the Doctoral place. Before she married Tom and children gets she wants to have a successful career. One day she receives an assurance from the University of Michigan. When she delivers the message Tom, this is so readily agreed to terminate his position as deputy chef and such to move it to Michigan. The planned wedding want both will move first.

The search for a suitable position in Michigan designed for Tom quite difficult, he finally finds a job at a small sandwich bar. Violet soon joined in their new colleagues at the University of Michigan. Tom decides to leave their engagement party and chases Winton, who has appeared at the ceremony, through the city. During the night a co-worker tries to seduce the completely drunken Tom. Tom wakes up with a frostbitten toe in snowed forest the next morning.

Tom and Violet decide to separate. She gives him the engagement ring back and he leaves Michigan and pulls back to San Francisco. In the coming months, Violet has a relationship with Winton. Tom is back in the restaurant in San Francisco, which is now managed by Alex, and also has a new relationship. After Tom is fired from Alex, he dares to take a fresh start and opened a mobile Tacoverkauf. Meanwhile, Violet is to be transported in Michigan. However, they found out that they should receive the new job only because of their relationship to Winton.

As Violet's grandmother dies Tom comes to the funeral. There, Tom and Violet see for the first time in a long time and come closer. They spend the night together, and Tom suggests that Violet is to come with him for a few days to San Francisco. They see themselves as good as in previous days. When Tom Violet wants to bring to the airport, Violet makes him in the car a marriage proposal. Tom admits that he also wanted to make her a request at the airport.
