The Flock (band)

The Flock ( engl. the flock, the flock ) was an American rock band that is often compared to groups such as Chicago, Colosseum or Blood, Sweat & Tears. Your complex music blended rock, jazz, blues and other styles. They sat in a skirt rather unusual instruments such as saxophone and electrically amplified violin. John Mayall described it as the best American band that he had ever heard.

Band History

The Flock was founded in 1965 by Rick Canoff (vocals, saxophone) and Fred Glickstein (vocals, guitar, keyboards), who had played together previously been in a band called The Exclusives. With various accompanying musicians, they recorded several singles.

In 1969, the group had grown to a septet with other members Jerry Goodman ( violin), Jerry Smith ( bass), Ron Karpman (drums ), John Gerber (saxophone, flute, banjo ) and Tom Webb (saxophone, flute ). This year, her acclaimed but commercially disappointing debut album " The Flock " was released.

In 1970, she appeared at the Bath Festival, among others with Led Zeppelin on. In 1970 he published the second album " Dinosaur Swamps " which fell short of expectations.

While working on the third album " Flock Rock", the group disbanded in 1971; the album remained unfinished and was never published. Jerry Goodman contributed to more John McLaughlin's album " My Goal 's Beyond" and became a founding member of the fusion band Mahavishnu Orchestra.

1973 there was a re-formation as a quintet with another violinist who grossed the album " Inside Out " and went on tour. Published in 2004 a live album with pictures from the European tour 1973.
