The Floorwalker (Original Title: The Floor Walker) is an American comedy film directed by Charles Chaplin from 1916.

Action

The film takes place in a department store. The director plans together with his Floorwalker to steal the revenue of the department store. Meanwhile examined the tramp under the sharp eyes of a seller the goods of the department store. The seller does not see the Tramp as a potential customer, but as a potential shoplifter. The Tramp tries the individual goods. He shaved, perfumed, but puts everything back in its place. Background

The shop supervisor is the first film Charlie Chaplin for Mutual film after his move from Essanay and was premiered on 15 May 1916. The entire story is set in a department store, an escalator located at the center (commonly used in American department stores since 1901 in Germany only since 1925). The film was set to this prop around and the biggest riots the chases take place on the escalator.

From the cast of his Essanay films took Chaplin Edna Purviance and Leo White, Lloyd Bacon and John Rand. Charlotte Mineau, who had been involved in only two Essanays, was integrated from the film throughout the team. The most important additions to Chaplin's ensemble cast were Eric Campbell (Rogue / opponent in eleven of the twelve Mutuals ), Albert Austin, and Henry Bergman. The later director Lloyd Bacon had in the Floorwalker his biggest role in a Chaplin film.
