The Fool (design collective)

The Fool was a Dutch design group, who had with its colorful, psychedelic creations, particularly in the pop and rock music scene of the 1960s big impact. The name derives from the tarot card " The Fool " ( engl. The Fool ) (cf. Tarot Journal).

History

The founding members were Dutch artists Simon Posthuma and Marijke Koger, who were discovered by photographer Karl Ferris in a hippie commune on the island of Ibiza, Spain. Ferris sent pictures of dresses that Postuma and Kroger had designed, to London. After the photos were published in the London newspaper The Times and a large media response provoked, Ferris took The Fool to London together with the design group to open a studio. The Fool designed clothing and psychedelic art, Ferris published photographs. Later, the designer Barry Finch and the musician Josje Leeger came to the group. The latter was involved only to later recordings of "The Fool".

  • Colourful costumes for the group " The Hollies ", worn on the cover of the 1966 album " Evolution".
  • Album cover of the 1967 LP "The 5000 spirits or the layers of the onion " of the Incredible String Band
  • Costumes worn by the Beatles in the 1967 television broadcast of " All You Need Is Love". Also of " The Fool " comes the painting of John Lennon played in the transmission Gibson J160E acoustic guitar.
  • A large, over three floors extending colorful mural on the facade of the Beatles' Apple Boutique in London's Baker Street. Apple Botique introduced at that time, products of "The Fool". Due to protests from the neighbors, the mural was later removed.
  • The colorful painting of John Lennon 's Rolls -Royce in the style of a historic funfair car. It later came to an incident when an elderly lady at the car with the words "You pig! How could you do this to a Rolls Roye! " struck with an umbrella. John Lennon put forward another Rolls- Royce, which he had matte black paint.
  • Painting of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's piano. Paul McCartney puts his instrument to this day.
  • Painting of George Harrison's Mini, different guitars and equipment of Harrison Kinfauns bungalow (including a custom-built hearth)
  • Painting of Eric Clapton's legendary Gibson SG electric guitar and Jack Bruce's Fender VI bass guitar. Both instruments were played by Cream on their 1967 tour of the United States.
  • Set and props for Joe Massot's 1968 film Wonderwall. The Fool appear in the film as extras on the party scene.
  • Album "The Fool" ( published by Mercury, MCY 134095 ) with subsequent tour of the U.S. (1968).
