The Frog Princess is a well-known in many countries in many variants fairy tale.

A king asks his three sons (or: an old peasant woman calls her sons ) to marry. They should determine their wives as they take down an arrow. At the point where the arrow falls to the ground, there is the wife. The two older sons in this way find their wives, the arrow of the youngest son but, thanks to a frog to the ground. He is very unhappy and married the frog.

The king represents his future daughter-in various tasks such as spinning clothes, baking bread and the like. The Frog exceeds all tasks, the future wives of the older sons. Nevertheless, the youngest son is ashamed of the frog at his side until he suddenly transforms into a princess. In some versions the transformation is a reward for their good nature; in other are responsible for wicked witches; in others, it turns out that the frog has always been an enchanted princess.

Variants

  • In the Italian version The Prince who married a Frog, found in Italo Calvino in Italian fairy tale, use the prince instead of a bow and arrow a spin.
  • Walt Disney Animation Studios produced the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog. Was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The music is by Randy Newman.
