The Global 2000 Report to the President

Global 2000 is an environmental study, which was given in 1977 by U.S. President Jimmy Carter in the context of a message to Congress in order. It was published in 1980 by the U.S. government and translated by a group of employees of the publisher Zweitausendeins into German in the same year. The first German edition consisted of 1438 pages. An additional band at around 200 pages, was published in 1981 under the title " Time for action ".

The study was prepared by the Council on Environmental Quality ( Environmental ) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with other U.S. federal agencies and a network of institutions and experts. She was therefore much wider and more advanced than those that study Limits to Growth, the Club of Rome was published in 1972. The study predicted both above-average population growth and growing environmental issues, and saw clear signs of climate change.

The study was sold 500,000 copies in the United States. It is still regarded as the most successful book of its German publishing house and found mainly in the environmental movement broad resonance. Since some of their predictions have not materialized, it is now considered outdated.
