The Gods (band)

The Gods were an English rock band that existed from 1965 to 1969. Importance had the Gods above all as a springboard to careers with well-known bands.

History

The original band members were Mick Taylor (later with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and The Rolling Stones), Brian Glascock and his brother John (later of Jethro Tull ). The three were friends at school and had been playing together since 1962 as The Juniors (or The Strangers ). The Juniors, who included Malcolm Collins and Alan Shacklock, got a record deal, and in 1964 they released their single There's a Pretty Girl / Pocket Size. Ken Hensley came in 1965 (keyboard, vocals, later guitarist with Uriah Heep ) and Joe Kona (guitar, vocals) as a new band members, and they called themselves " The Gods".

1966 were the opening act of the Gods Cream Starlite Ballroom in Wembley, London. In 1967 she participated in the occupation of Mick Taylor, Ken Hensley, John Glascock, Brian Glascock and Lee Kerslake (later also at Uriah Heep ), the single Come On Down To My Boat Baby / Garage Man on.

In May 1967, Mick Taylor went to the Bluesbreakers to replace Peter Green. The Gods moved to London, where they performed at the Marquee Club. In June 1967, John Glascock went for him first came Paul Newton, then Greg Lake ( later Emerson, Lake and Palmer ). Lake left the Gods in the summer of 1968 to start with Robert Fripp King Crimson, and John Glascock came back to the Gods.

This band only recorded two albums, Genesis (1968 ) and To Samuel a Son (1969). Her most famous single was Hey Bulldog (1969 ), originally performed by the Beatles.

Even before the publication of the second album, the Gods had dissolved. Most band members joined Cliff Bennett, with whom she appeared under the name Toe Fat.
