The Gold of Tolosa

The Gold of Tolosa (Latin aurum Tolosanum ) was a Celtic gold.

Originally this was supposed gold by the oracle of Delphi, however, to have been, abducted by a Celtic tribe Tolosa, now Toulouse. There it encamped in the pond of the Celtic Apollo sanctuary until Tolosa was sacked 106 BC at the reconquest by the Romans after a riot.

Here, the consul Quintus Servilius Caepio discovered the treasure and had to send him to Massalia. The treasure was never there but to, according to Theodor Mommsen, because Caepio men illegally for their Lord took possession of him, followed by a hint of the ancient historian Cassius Dio points. The word aurum was Tolosanum -making among the Romans a synonym for an accident subject.
