The Golden Palace

Golden Palace was the successor series of the sitcom The Golden Girls and was filmed and broadcast from 1992 to 1993.

In the series The Golden Girls Beatrice Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty had played a four- women -WG, which together spend their retirement years in Florida. By cross- cameos and crossovers the series Golden Girls, Golden Palace, Harry's nest and form Hello sister! a common series universe.

After 180 Golden Girls episodes Arthur got out of the series, since it was considered that the series would run with further consequences in danger of losing its originality and wit.

However, the other three actresses were about to turn and so did the series Golden Palace, in the further led the three their respective characters from the Golden Girls and as such a hotel - Golden Palace - bought and operated.

There were, however, only rotated 24 episodes, as it soon became clear that the success of The Golden Girls was based on the fact that the four characters were perfectly coordinated and harmonized with each other and this interaction no longer worked without Beatrice Arthur.

As a replacement for them Don Cheadle (Roland Wilson) and Cheech Marin ( Chuy Castillos ) were included in the series. Roland is the receptionist at the Golden Palace Hotel and Chuy cares, with the active support of Sophia to the kitchen. More commonly occurs on the boy Oliver.

For this offshoot of the Golden Girls was resorted to an almost identical team. So were also the theme tune - but here in an interpretation of the composer Andrew Gold and not, as in The Golden Girls, by Cynthia Fee - received and the scene music composer George Aliceson Tipton and even Andrew Gold.

Also at the scene music one could follow even notice the proximity to the Golden Girls, because we have not taken the original music of the Golden Girls in the first episodes of the Golden Palace, and this was only step by step through new compositions replaced especially for this series.

DVD Release

The series is available neither in the U.S. nor in Germany on DVD. When and if the series on DVD will be released is unclear.
