At the Graduate Center of the City University of New York ( CUNY ), both the training of students in master's and doctoral degree programs as well as research and public events. At its headquarters in Midtown Manhattan 4,600 students and 33 doctoral programs, seven master's degree programs and 30 separate research institutes are located. The research institutes dealing with social, public, cultural and scientific topics. The faculty at the Graduate Center (core faculty ) consists of approximately 150 professors, to which added another 1,800 teachers who are appointed by the eleven senior colleges of the City University.

Since 1965, more than ten thousand students have completed their doctorate at the Graduate Center.

Since 1999, the Graduate Center is located in a nine-story building with the address 365 Fifth Avenue, formerly the seat of the department store B. Altman.
