The Hamptons

Hamptons or the Hamptons is the name of a region on the eastern end of the island Long Iceland in Suffolk County of the U.S. state of New York. The name derives from the local towns of Southampton, East Hampton, Westhampton, Bridgehampton and Hampton Bays. The Hamptons are located between City 130 km ( Westhampton ) and 230 km ( Montauk ) from New York.

For many decades the Hamptons are considered as the Mecca of the super rich and primarily serve wealthy Americans as a weekend or summer residence. Many billionaires as well as personalities from industry, finance, film and television have their homes here. Among the most famous owners of a property include Mariah Carey, Steven Spielberg, Tiger Woods and Jennifer Lopez. The property prices of the Hamptons are among the highest in the world.

The area was purchased from the Algonquian Indians in the 17th century by the settler Lion Gardiner for the equivalent of 24 axes, 24 coats, 20 mirrors and 100 Ahlen.
