The Handsome Family

The Handsome Family is an American alternative country duo, the couple Brett and Rennie Sparks. They live in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The songs emerge in a strict division of roles: Brett Sparks, who has played already in various independent bands, writes the music and Rennie Sparks, who is also a writer, writes the lyrics. Characteristic of their texts is a strong grounding in the literary genre Southern Gothic and Gothic elements, which are also found in the classic country and folk. The often abstruse and dramatic texts are recited by Brett Sparks in an indifferent, warm baritone.
