The High Chaparral

High Chaparral ( original title: The High Chaparral ) is a Western television series that was produced ( a pilot movie and 96 episodes ) for the U.S. television network NBC from 1967 to 1971 in 97 episodes.

Action

Big John Cannon is a rough rancher. He managed the High Chaparral Ranch in Arizona in the second half of the 19th century ( The first episode takes place in 1863 ). After he loses his wife during a robbery, he must take care together with his brother Buck about his son Billy Blue and the cattle herds. Constantly there are conflicts with cattle rustlers and Indians. At the beginning of the series is Big John an alliance with him his hostile neighbors, the powerful landowner Montoya. However, this makes it a condition that Big John Victoria, his spirited daughter marries, so the Alliance will also sealed family. After the wedding, Victoria's brother, Manolito also lives with the Cannons.

Background

The series is based on an idea by David Dortort, who also previously created the classic Bonanza.

From March 1969 to June 1972 initially ran 45 episodes on ZDF. 23 more episodes followed the mid-80s on Sat.1. In 1996, kabel eins showed for the first time the complete series, the 30 episodes not shown to date with completely different speakers were synchronized. The free channels Anixe HD showed the series in 2010 for the first time in HD quality.
