The Hunger Project

The Hunger Project Germany is a non-governmental organization for the sustainable end of world hunger and chronic carries the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues ( DZI).

The International Hunger Project

Office of the international organization The Hunger Project is New York City. It was founded in 1977. The organization has 250 employees and over 377,000 volunteers active in 24 countries. Western partner countries where donations for the program countries are collected, are Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Great Britain and the United States. The U.S. Charity Navigator gives the organization The Hunger Project, four out of four stars.

The international organization The Hunger Project gives once a year, the Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger.

Approach

The Hunger Project intends to people in Africa, Latin America and South Asia to mobilize to improve their living conditions through their own strength and self-determined. At the same time it wants to involve locally to professionals, government officials and other non-governmental organizations to change social and political conditions and to create a constructive environment for the programs and initiatives. A major focus of the organization is the empowerment of women.

Activities

The Hunger Project had more than 180,000 men and women trained by 2008 claims to be the world volunteer development coaches who are socially engaged at all levels of society.

The Hunger Project Germany is a member of the Association of German Development NGOs (VENRO ).

Public criticism

The Hunger Project has been exposed in the past several criticisms:

  • The organization was in her early years in conjunction with Werner Erhard and his seminars. The accounting policies applied in these seminars methods for personality formation were compared with those of Sheridan Fenwick of Scientology. There are no more connections between the Hunger Project and Werner Erhard since 1991.
  • Another accusation was that of failure in self-imposed goal to end hunger by the year 1997.
