The Lake House (Original Title: The Lake House ) is a romantic drama film from 2006, directed by Alejandro Agresti. The film stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.
The film is a remake of the Korean feature film Life as a House - Il Mare from the year 2000.
Action
Dr. Kate Forster is leaving a house on the lake where she had lived for some time, and moved to Chicago, where she takes a job as a doctor. She leaves a message in their mailbox for their tenant. Alex Wyler, whose father once built the house, finds this message and from then exchanged messages with Kate about the letter box of the house.
It turns out that Alex lives in the past in 2004, Kate in 2006. On her birthday in 2006, Kate is sitting alone in a bar She remembers a man who two years earlier attended her birthday party. It is shown how Alex accidentally gets to know the then boyfriend of Kate in 2004 and is invited to the party. He already knows how Kate looks, but she knows him only from the letters. Simon Wyler, the father of Alex and a famous architect, is having a heart attack to the hospital. Kate notes in his hospital chart that he died shortly afterwards. She regrets that she can not be with Alex, to comfort him. Kate sends Alex wrote the book from his father, which was not yet published to Alex's time to give him solace during this difficult time.
Kate and Alex fall in love and arrange a meeting to which Alex does not come. Alex can not understand why he has not appeared in two years and wants to meet up with Kate for a second time. But she finds that it has no meaning and that it was both not predestined to meet. She asks Alex not to try to contact her in the future. However, he does not want to lose and writes her letters continue, but gets no answers.
In 2006, Alex is then with his brother Henry on the road, and when his brother tells him that just Valentine's Day in 2006, Alex recalls a letter from Kate. She writes in how they witness an accident was on Valentine's Day 2006, in which a man was killed. He drives to the house on the lake, to find out exactly where the accident took place.

The two fall into each other 's arms and kiss.

- The eponymous lake house was specially built for the film on Maple Lake in Illinois and demolished after the shooting.

- The film clips shown with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman are from the movie Notorious by Alfred Hitchcock.
- In one scene, Alex's father says, "I thought your Kerouac days subject behind you," this is an allusion to the writer Jack Kerouac.
- Director Alejandro Agresti has a cameo in the film. He plays Kate's seatmate on the train, who used the oral spray.
- The restaurant, where Kate and Alex want to meet, called " Il Mare ", which is also the international title of the South Korean original version of the film. In Germany the film under the title Life as a House was - Il Mare sold, the original Korean title is Siworae ( in Korean script: 시월애 ).
