The Last Five Years

The last five years (English Original title The Last Five Years ) is a chamber musical with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. It was premiered in 2001 in Chicago and produced in March 2002 in the Minetta Lane Theatre in New York's Off- Broadway. The German version of which dates from Wolfgang Adenberg and had on 18 June 2005 at the Rex Theater Wuppertal premiere. The film starred Patrick Stanke and Charlotte Heinke. Was directed by Daniel Witzke and Christoph Drewitz. The London premiere took place at the Menier Chocolate Factory on 18 July 2006.

The musical tells the story of a couple's relationship, Jamie and Cathy, who meet, marry and separate again after five years. Here, Brown chooses an unusual narrative style: the action is transported exclusively by fourteen songs, and there are hardly spoken dialogues. Jamie and Cathy alternate in their songs. While Jamie tells the story of their relationship from the beginning, Cathy looks back, of their separation to the first rendezvous of the two. Only once, at the wedding, the two narratives meet.
