The Rogue and the Lady ( Original title: The Law and the Lady ) is an American film comedy starring Greer Garson and Michael Wilding in 1951 as a literary model used was the stage play The Last of Mrs. Cheyney by Frederick Lonsdale. .

Action

In London the turn of the century the maid Jane Hoskins is accused of her mistress Lady Sybil Minden stolen diamond earrings. The Rogue and the Lady was the third adaptation of the successful stage play The Last of Mrs. Cheyney (1925 ) by Frederick Lonsdale. Previously, it was already with Norma Shearer ( The Last of Mrs. Cheyney, 1929) and Joan Crawford ( The Last of Mrs. Cheyney, 1937) has been adapted twice under the original title for the screen. 1961 followed with Mrs. Cheney's end, a German film starring Lilli Palmer and Carlos Thompson in the lead roles.

Both Briton Michael Wilding as well as Argentinean Fernando Lamas meant The Rogue and the Lady, the Hollywood debut.
