The Little Matchgirl (film)

The Little Match Girl is an American animated short film directed by Roger Allers from the year 2006. It is based on the story of the little girl with the matches of Hans Christian Andersen.

Action

In the wintry snow-covered streets of a Russian city offers a little girl of matches for sale. Passersby ignore the girl who even turns on a lamp socket to draw attention to themselves, but it is lifted down from the lamplighter. The girl withdrew into a backyard. It freezes because it does not even have proper shoes on, and then it will ignite after some hesitation, one of matches. By the light of the light it turns a furnace before and wants to warm to him, but goes out the match suddenly. The second ignited wood leads to the idea of a richly laid table, the third finally to the imagination of a sleigh ride that ends at a stately villa. A good-natured old lady opens and looks at the girl enjoys. As threatens this notion through the spent match to disappear ignites the girls all three remaining matches. In his imagination it embraces the grandmotherly woman and a door opens, showing a richly decorated Christmas tree.

The lights of the tree are transformed into the stars of heaven. In the snow, the frozen girl lies. The spirit of the old woman appears and captures the spirit of the girl with him.

Production

The Little Match Girl was originally planned as a segment of Fantasia 2006. The film, which should arise in connection to Fantasia 2000 was, however, never materialized in the form. Instead, conceived for the film short animated films were issued separately. The Little Match Girl combines traditional animation with computer-animated elements. The film experienced on 5 June 2006 at the Festival d' Animation Annecy its premiere. In addition, he was released in 2006 on the Special Edition DVD of The Little Mermaid.

Awards

The Little Match Girl has been nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film " nominated in 2007, but could not against The Danish Poet - through set A love story.
