The Little Prince (1974 film)

The Little Prince is a movie musical based on the story by Antoine de Saint- Exupéry. The music is by Frederick Loewe, lyrics writer and wrote Alan Jay Lerner.

Action

The pilot wanted to be a painter as a young boy, but his drawings were misinterpreted by the "big people ", and he could not talk about art with them. That's why he conceals his inner passion and is itself a " reasonable adult ". He is a pilot, and the sky he experienced his freedom. But he still has no one with whom he can talk about his passion.

During a test flight from Paris to India, the pilot must make an emergency landing because of an engine defect in the Sahara. There he meets the little prince. The Prince asks him to draw a sheep, and so awakens again the old passion of the pilot. During the pilot repaired the aircraft engine, various conversations between the pilot and the little prince develop. Here, the Prince tells of his home planet with three volcanoes and the rose, and of his journey to Earth.

On this journey, the little prince came past various other planets: The Planet of the king who can not live without limits and documents. The Planet of the businessman who lives entirely in his world of numbers and is completely fixated on ownership and its propagation. The Planet of the historian of his history and truth writes how he wants them. The Planet of the General, for the meaning of life is on the " field of honor " to die.

Last lands the little prince on earth, and here met the snake. The snake told him that a single deadly bite of it can solve all problems. Then the little prince reached a rose garden with thousands of roses. He is very scared because his rose is on his home planet, nothing special anymore. Then he met the fox, who is at first very shy and hid from the Prince, but can then be tamed. The fox makes the little prince clear that he, like many others is a fox too, and that the Little Prince a child like many others. What they do special is their friendship that unites them.

With his travelogue of the Little Prince in the pilot causing a change in the perception of what is really important. The result is a friendship between the two. But when the pilot of the aircraft engine brings running again, pushing the little prince homesick for his planet and his rose. When the pilot wants to fly back home, would like the Little Prince not, but even back home, and takes advantage of the offer of the snake with its deadly bite. However, he must so leave his body.

Production

The film was produced at EMI -MGM Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, England. Locations were in the Tunisian Sahara.

Awards

In 1975 the film won a Golden Globe and was nominated for three Golden Globes and two more Oscars.
