The Long Valley

The Red Pony and Other Stories is a short story collection of the U.S. Nobel laureate John Steinbeck. Originally called the work The Long Valley and appeared in 1938. Cumshot German it was transferred by Rudolf Frank. The contained therein longest and eponymous story The Red Pony ( The Red Pony) was released in the U.S. in 1933.

Handlungsort of the stories is Steinbeck's home, the rural areas in the western United States. With clear language, he formulated the joys, but also concerns of its residents. There is no more cheerful of Steinbeck's works, but quite telling captivating.

The title story, set on a farm in Salinas Valley, is divided into four sections, all of which are independent short stories with their own actions. In the first part ( The Gift ) gets the boy Jody given a pony. As the animal bad cold, is farm assistant Billy Buck utmost to ensure that it becomes healthy again. The great mountains, the second section is about an old Paisano, the dying looking home. In the third part, The Pledge, Jody gets again a horse gift, which is still in the womb. The fourth and final section, The leader, Jody's grandfather comes to the farm and must recognize that the present generation can form no more unity.
