The magician is an American film directed by Rex Ingram from the year 1926. The film was based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham.

Action

The young sculptor Margaret is injured by a falling portrait. She wears a paralysis of it, but will they successfully operated on by Dr. Arthur Burdon. When the operation is as a spectator, a mysterious man named Oliver Haddo present, which expresses that the true art does not consist in the healing, but in the creation of life. He finds an old recipe for performing it he needs, among other things, the blood of a virgin.

From Dr. Arthur Burdon and Margaret is a pair. In a fairground, the two meet on Haddo, demonstrating to them how he heals himself from the bite of venomous snake a snake charmer. The next day, Haddo apologized to Margaret for having frightened her. She wants to send him away at first, but succumbs to its hypnotic effect, whereupon he shows her a vision of hell.

Margaret feels safe only in the presence of Arthur before Haddo; she eagerly awaits the upcoming wedding with her groom. Suddenly she gets a message from Haddo, she should urgently come to him.

On the wedding day which surprised Arthur receives a message from Margaret that she was married to Haddo. Arthur suspects that this did not happen with Margaret's consent. He followed the two; his trail leads him to Monte Carlo in a casino where Haddo and Margaret are active as gamblers. Margaret asks Arthur to come to Latourette; is in that place a laboratory where hiding with Margaret to Haddo. Arthur brings Margaret to their rest in a sanatorium. After days of absence Haddo reappears in his lab and kidnaps Margaret order to perform his experiments with her. Arthur and his friend Dr. Porhoet give chase. You can Margaret free just in time Haddos lab is destroyed.
