Branded is a British drama film from 1961 based on the novel by Charles E. Israel.

Action

The Canadian Jim Fuller growing, conditionally zoom by his dominating mother, a man full of self-doubt. After an ill-fated relationship with a girl his age, he begins to care for younger girls more and more. Finally, he kidnapped a 10- year-old. Although he has the child otherwise done nothing, he is accused of fornication with children and sentenced to three years in prison. There he undergoes group therapy, which is led by the psychiatrist Dr. McNally.

After his discharge, Jim takes a job in the advertising firm of Mr. Clive, who is the only one besides Dr. McNally who knows about Jim's past. Jim begins his rehabilitation. His self -esteem increases, as it a romance with Ruth, Mr. Clive's secretary comes. Also, the normal ratio, Jim has with Ruth's 11 -year-old daughter, Janie, is a sign of its stability.

When a child is attacked by a man who looks very similar to Jim, Jim quickly comes under suspicion. But he has an airtight alibi. On a fair Jim is recognized by the reporter Austin, making his past it public. His landlady, Mrs. Cartwright, announces him then the apartment. He loses his job and also Ruth breaks up with him out of fear for her daughter. Devastated, Jim wants to be hospitalized by Dr. McNally to a mental hospital. But the doctor brings Jim to leave the city and start in a different place, a new life. Ruth finds Jim there and asks for forgiveness. She asks him to begin their new life together.

Criticism

Awards

The film was nominated for three film awards, but won none of them.

Stuart Whitman was in 1962 nominated for Best Actor Oscar, Guy Green at the International Film Test Cannes for the Golden Palm. There was also nominated for the Samuel Goldwyn Award at the award ceremony of the Golden Globe.

Background

In Germany the film was first used on June 8, 1961 in the cinemas in the U.S. even only on 2 October of the same year.

The lead role was originally intended for Richard Burton, but could not participate because of contract obligations.
