The Marshall Tucker Band

The Marshall Tucker Band, founded in 1971 in Spartanburg (South Carolina), was one of the most famous Southern rock bands of the 1970s. The music was a mix of styles from rock, country music and jazz, combined with long acoustic passages. Members were: the singer Doug Gray, guitarist Toy Caldwell ( † 25 February 1993), Tommy Caldwell ( † 28 April 1980) on bass, guitarist George McCorkle ( † 29 June 2007) and the drummer Paul Riddle, together with Jerry Eubanks.

Band History

The band signed a contract with Capricorn Records and released their debut album in March 1973, the band got attention by a tour with the Allman Brothers.; most of their records during the 70s got gold status. Her biggest success was the album " Carolina Dreams" with the contained song "Heard It in a Love Song", which brought it in 1977 to number 15 in the charts. " Searchin 'for a Rainbow " and " Long Hard Ride" are two distinct albums of Southern Rock.

1980 bassist Tommy Caldwell died in a car accident. The band did not get into the album charts since 1982. Toy Caldwell left the band to begin a solo career. Later he founded the Toy Caldwell band and with her 1992 released a CD. Various books on tape were released in the U.S.. The line-up of the 1998 band was: Rusty Milner (guitar ), Tim lawter ( bass), Stuart Swanlund (guitar ), David Muse (saxophone, flute and keyboard) and BB Borden (formerly member of the band Mother's Finest ) on drums. In addition to the 1998 publication " Face Down in the Blues", the band released in 1999 an album of gospel songs out. The gospel CD contains a unique interpretation of the gospel classic " Wayfaring Stranger". After several line-up changes appeared in the years 2004 and 2007, the albums " Beyond the Horizon " and "The Next Adventure", which were recorded back in the guitar -oriented Southern rock style of the 70s and 80s.

The American glam metal band Poison released 2007 album Poison'd! Which exclusively contained cover versions. For this CD Poison had also recorded the song Can not You See by the Marshall Tucker Band. The band Black Stone Cherry published in 2011 another version of Can not You See on the album Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea.
