The Missing Picture (film)

The missing picture ( original title: L'image manquante ) is a documentary of the Cambodian director Rithy Panh of 2013.

Content

The film depicts the youth of the director Rithy Panh in 1975 as 13 -year-old is deported by the Khmer Rouge from his hometown of Phnom Penh with his family. As a working collective to them any property is prohibited ( except for a spoon ). The people have to work on the rice fields and in the woods, to form the new company. The parents of the young Rithy Panh die, there is a great famine with many casualties. Again and again the director thinks back to his happy childhood in Phnom Penh.

Production

The director built the "missing images ", for which there is no footage, with painted clay figures in dioramas after. In addition, documentary or propaganda recordings were performed. The spoken texts by Christophe Bataille, the clay figures of Sarith Mang.
