The Mount, Shrewsbury

The Mount is an extensive estate in Shrewsbury and is officially called Mount House. It was the birthplace of the British naturalist and co-founder of the theory of evolution Charles Darwin.

This grand estate was built in 1800 by the local doctor Robert Darwin and Charles Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 there. Robert Darwin died on 13 November 1848 in the House and in 1866 the house was sold at auction by the three surviving children.

1996 The Mount Residents' Group was established to protect the property in front of a redevelopment project, which it did.
