The Mountain Wreath

The Mountain Wreath (Serbian Горски вијенац / Gorski Vijenac; slawenoserbisch Горскıй вıенацъ ) is a penned in verse epic and is, as the title expresses, as a historical witness of the era of the first Prince-Bishop Danilo end of the 17th century in the region of Montenegro. Petar II Petrović - author was Njegoš, who ruled as Prince-Bishop of Montenegro from 1830 to 1851.

History

His magnum opus, which was recorded in Cetinje in 1846 largely from him, is one of the most important works of Serbian literature. The first print was published in Vienna in 1847. The prince-bishop took his transcript with a diplomatic mission to Vienna, where he left them to the local Armenian monastery for printing. Due to its priority mission Russia to ask for succoring in the fight against the Ottomans, he could only fly over the finished print. When printing there must have been some inconsistencies and the text was when changed in a very small extent. The first edition of 1847 is considered as the author just four years later, died after a long illness and cure of tuberculosis and there is no official standard output, as largely authentic.

Dedication

The author, of the dedication with the description of the dust of the father of Serbia ( отца Праху Србіе ) aimed at the perished Karađorđe, had to partially replace using wildcards his text because censorship guidelines of the Empire of Austria- Hungary. About one- third of the text of the dedication fell victim to censorship.
