The Mulliner Book

The Mulliner Book is an historically valuable collection of pieces for organ or other keyboard instruments. The pieces were probably collected 1545-1570 by Thomas Mulliner, of which it is only known that he was organist of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

The book is located since 1877 in the British Museum in London.

Content

The book presents a collection of 121 pieces dar. More than half of them are based on measurement Catholic songs, the rest are arrangements of songs or two dances. One of the most famous pieces is probably La Bounette. Nine of the pieces are written for the cittern. Sixteen composers are known by name, including Thomas Tallis ( 18 pieces ), John Redford ( 35 pieces ), William Blitheman ( 15 pieces ), John Taverner (1 piece ) and Christopher Tye ( 2 pieces ). Nineteen pieces are anonymous.
