The New Normal (TV series)

The New Normal (English for "The New Normal") is an American sitcom starring Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells and Georgia King in the lead roles. It was produced from 2012 to 2013 by 20th Century Fox Television, a sister company of 20th Century Fox, in collaboration with Ryan Murphy Productions and Ali Adler Is Here Productions for the U.S. television network NBC. The first broadcast in the United States took place on September 10, 2012 on NBC. In Germany the broadcasting began on May 8, 2013 ProSieben in double episodes.

Action

The gay couple David and Bryan lives in Los Angeles and wants a baby. They decide to organize a surrogate mother. You opt for the young Goldie who has just moved from Ohio to Los Angeles to begin a new life. She brings her eight year old daughter Shania and the grandmother Jane with David and Bryan. They all must quickly find that Jane can not cope with the views of the gay couple. And then also still looms Goldies ex-husband Clay, swirls everything up.

Production and broadcasting

In January 2012, a pilot episode of The New Normal NBC has ordered. For this pilot episode Andrew Rannells has signed on the first starring role. It followed him Ellen Barkin, Justin Bartha and Georgia King. On 8 May 2012 a 13-part first season was ordered. The first broadcast began on September 10, 2012 after an episode of the U.S. version of The Voice. The premiere pursued 6.88 million viewers. Although the series lost in the ensuing weeks of viewers, NBC gave the series in October, the so-called back -nine order. Thus, the first season comes to 22 episodes. The season finale was followed on April 2, 2013 3.39 million viewers.

In May 2013 NBC announced that series.

In Germany, the series was initially announced for 27 March 2013, ProSieben, then postponed to May 8, 2013, and shown in double episodes on Wednesdays. The first two episodes of the TV series reached 7.2% and 7.6 % market share, not the transmitter section in the third and fourth episode, the ratings improved, however, with 9.7% and 12.7 % market share of 14 to 49 -year-old. As the series but again scored below average rates in the episode, the broadcasting of the remaining episodes was postponed from 19 June to 18 July 2013 after midnight. In Germany pursued an average 610,000 viewers ( 9.9 percent) of the target demographic and 690,000 viewers (5 percent ) of the total audience, the 22 episodes of the series.

Reception

The Conservative Association One Million Moms criticized the series because it contained harmful to minors content. In a statement, it says: " These things hurt our company and the consignment harm our culture. [ ... ] Millions of Americans firmly believe that marriage should be only between a man and a woman. NBC's The New Normal tries to desensitize America and our children. It is the opposite of what families were provided and created. You can not reinvent the biological cycle ". The NBC partner stations in the U.S. state of Utah, KSL - TV, refused to broadcast the series, because it is contrary to its brand image.
