The Odd Couple is an American feature film, directed by Gene Saks from 1968 with the comedy duo Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. The comedy film is a screen adaptation of the stage play by Neil Simon, who also wrote the screenplay for the film version.

Action

The order of his wife abandoned fanatics and hypochondriac Felix Ungar ( Jack Lemmon ) wants to kill himself. After several failed attempts, he finally ends up in the apartment of his friend, already divorced sportscaster Oscar Madison (Walter Matthau ). There currently is held regular poker game. After Oscar and his friends have calmed Felix, Oscar decides to take Felix with him.

The first time brings the ratty apartment into shape and also provides for order in life Oscars, helps him, for example, when saving money for your alimony payments to his wife. Increasingly, however, he goes Oscar with his obsession with cleanliness on my nerves. The situation escalates when Felix screwed up a rendezvous with the two sisters Gwendolyn and Cecily Fink.

The film won the Laurel Award for Best Comedy in 1968. The screenplay was awarded the Writers Guild of America Award.

The Odd Couple was first a Broadway show, which began in 1965 under the direction of Neil Simon, with Walter Matthau as Oscar and Art Carney as Felix. Later, Jack Klugman played Felix's part, until 1968 in the filming Jack Lemmon took over the role.

In the autumn of 1970 began under the direction of Garry Marshall's television series in which Tony Randall Felix Unger and Jack Klugman played Oscar Madison this time. As theme music Neal Hefti's theme was also used in the movie. The series ran from September 1970 to July 1975 and includes five seasons and 114 episodes. On German television, the series was entitled The Odd Couple.

1980 produced the ZDF a six-part series entitled Felix and Oscar. Heinz Baumann played here the Oscar, Horst Bollmann Felix. 1991 turned Michael Günther for ARD Odd Couple with Harald Juhnke as Oscar and Eddi Arent as Felix.

2002, the stage play by Neil Simon in a revised and slightly updated version as Oscar and Felix: A New Look at the Odd Couple in Los Angeles, performed on Broadway from 2005 to 2006. From December 2011, this version was performed in German language in the theater in the town hall eating with the television stars Leonard Lansink and Heinrich Schafmeister, later this production went on tour through Germany.

In 2005 the piece of Manfred Brümmer and Rolf Petersen, entitled Een was snurrig Poor transferred into Low German and listed on 12 November 2005 to 7 January 2006 at Ohnsorg theater with Manfred Bettinger and Till Huster in the title roles.
