The Old Man and the Bureaucrats

On the Mântuleasa Street (Romanian: " Pe strada Mantuleasa ") is a drafted by Mircea Eliade novel from 1967.

Action

The novel tells the story of an old man who lives in the street and gets Mântuleasa by chance into the hands of the Romanian Communist secret police, the Securitate, which considers him an enemy, fascist agents General Antonescu. To avoid prison, he invents a story about a noble Miss Cristina, he spins out farther and with invented details adorns but which is created as exciting and rich in detail, that the interrogation officer can not help as they are to listen more and more. Since thereby pulling the interrogation of the old man in the length, is suspected at the end of the officer to work for the counter-revolution and is arrested by his colleagues, while the old man is left blank.
