The Ordinary Boys

The Ordinary Boys are an English Britpop band from Worthing. At first they called themselves Next In Line. Their musical influences are mainly in the Mod Revival, Britpop, Ska and 80's guitar pop. So her name comes originally from a Morrissey song.

After the release of their debut album " Over The Counter Culture" ( 2004), the Ordinary Boys were considered as " coming band" in England. Reviews in the British music press celebrated the album - but sales fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, a loyal following, Ordinary Army was formed, called the concerts of the band were often sold out.

Published in 2005 the second album of the band " Brass Bound". The criticism rejected the disk from almost unanimous. The band was criticized mainly because of their lack of originality, as they closely oriented to their musical heroes The Jam, The Specials and The Clash.

In January 2006, singer Samuel Preston took part in the TV show Celebrity Big Brother ( UK). During his stay of several weeks in the Big Brother container he fell in love with the future winner of the show, Chantelle Houghton. The British tabloid and gossip press reported extensively from now on the new celebrity couple " Prestelle ". In the summer of 2006, the two were married under a lot of hype.

Preston's sudden popularity has led to sharp rise in CD sales of the Ordinary Boys. The single " Boys Will Be Boys" - which was actually published in 2005 - subsequently rose to number 3 on the UK charts, as well as the soon after released single " 9 To 5 ", which was created in cooperation with the rapper Lady Sovereign.

The third album of the Ordinary Boys " How To Get Everything You Ever Wanted In Ten Easy Steps " (2006) became a commercial success. The singles "Lonely At The Top " and " I Luv U" reached the British Top Ten.

But the old, originating from the Britpop, indie and punk scene fans turned in sequence from more and more. After the slowdown of the hype it has been quiet around the band. Meanwhile, Preston and Chantelle have been announced their separation, the band has not officially disbanded, but has no other releases in the pipeline.

The albums and singles of the Ordinary Boys are so far only be obtained as UK imports or as downloads in Germany.
