The Paragons

The Paragons were a style influencing Jamaican rocksteady band from Kingston in the 1960s.

The original lineup consisted of Garth " Tyrone " Evans, Bob Andy, Junior Menz, and Leroy Stamp. 1964 was replaced Leroy Stamp by John Holt, Junior Menz by Howard Barret.

The early music of the Paragon was heavily influenced by American soul music, and used the typical tight vocal harmonies of Jamaican groups of the early 1960s. In 1964, record producer Duke Reid became aware of the group and there were a number of successful singles recorded for the label " Treasure Isle ".

After these early successes Bob Andy left the group and The Paragnons gave up their soulful style and became one of the most popular rock steady bands in Jamaica. Disagreements about financial issues caused the group to break apart in 1970 and only John Holt was able to continue a notable solo career.

Among the most notable Jamaican, popular pieces of music is particularly Paragons ' The Tide Is High " worth mentioning, written by John Holt and accompanied on the violin by " White Rum " Raymond. In 1980 the piece in the cover version of Blondie was a number 1 hit in the U.S. and in the UK charts, Atomic Kitten version was also a UK number 2002 -1 - success in Germany and the song peaked at # 3
