The Passion of Joan of Arc is a historical film from the year 1928. It deals with the final hours of Joan of Arc, a 1431 executed oriented peasant girl. Directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, the title role played Renée Falconetti, which was conducted under the name of Maria Falconetti. The film is seen as a milestone in film history.
Action
The film shows at the beginning of the records of the trial of Joan, as they are preserved in the archive, and claims with this reference to a supposedly accurate representation of the events his own historical Verbürgtheit. Thereafter, the film is suddenly a the beginning of the trial.

Sound and Music
The film was originally intended to be filmed with sound, but to a lack of funds. Had silent film, according to the intention of the director, not the original music. Reception and subsequent fate of the film
The French version had to be shortened at the instigation of the church by 15 minutes. In Britain, the film was banned because the English soldiers are displayed very negative.
The uncensored original version was stored in the Ufa studios in Berlin and burned there in December 1928. Dreyer then created from remnants a new version that should have been quite similar to the original, but this version also fell in 1929 to a fire victim. 1951 was discovered at Gaumont a copy of this second edition. In 1981, a Danish version was in a mental hospital near the Norwegian capital Oslo (that is, with Danish subtitles ) of the first uncensored movie version found, which was in good condition and could be restored.
