The Pip ( German: the beeper) is the nickname of a number station that day on the frequency 5448 kHz and over night on the frequency 3756 kHz sends. Switching between the frequencies is seasonal. Usually it is in the broadcast signal beeps that the transmitter earned his nickname.

Broadcast Schedule

The beeper continuously sends a beep about 50 beeps per minute. In rare cases, the beep sound will be interrupted and sent a voice message. The last received message comes from 23 April 2013.

On older recordings, however, is a significantly faster beeping sound ( about 63 beeps per minute). Presumably, the tone of Pip has now been replaced or changed, resulting in the slower beeping found.

Callsign

Unlike other number stations Pip has not officially known callsign. However, points 8С1Щ (Latin transcription: 8S1Shch ) were a few voice messages sent, therefore it is assumed that this could be a call sign of Pip. In this context, it is also assumed that Pip no call sign for identification sends, but specify the recipient of a message, the combinations of characters at the beginning of a program.

Abnormalities in the transmission plan

On 3 December 2011, the beep sound is weaker and sat shortly thereafter completely. After a few minutes, however, the sound was audible again.

In a dossier that has appeared on Priyom.org, there is speculation on this occasion that the beep is not produced digitally or via playback, but an analog source (tape, cassette, ... ) produces the sound of the transmitter, which then in turn is picked up by a microphone.

Voice messages from The Pip

The following table lists the known voice messaging Pip are listed. However, it is quite possible that there were messages that were not registered by listeners.

History of The Pip

Unlike The Buzzer The pip is relatively unknown even today. The first ( still unknown) message, the station from which a recording is still available, dates of 27 December 1998 systematic records only begin in 2011.

At first Pip was designated by the Enigma 2000 as XX, later renamed after XT as 1999, the first confirmed voice message ( in Russian) became known, Pip got the registration S30.

Pip is with the transmitters The Buzzer ( Enigma 2000 ID: S28): placed and S9630, a hitherto relatively unknown station, in conjunction, Squeaky Wheel ( S32 Enigma -2000 - ID).

The onset of activity of Pip is not known, however, were confirmed before the first recording (see above) also observed other news, the content is however unknown today.

Location

The exact location is unknown, there are several assumptions about the location of Pip. On the relevant page of the station when Priyom.org the coordinates 47.1758 ° N, 39.4025 ° O47.175839.4025 specified as a location. Location changes, such as in UVB -76 have not yet been observed. However, to be certain seems that Pip is in Russia, probably in the area of the Azov Sea.

The transmitter has been gepeilt.

Function of the transmitter

The exact function of Pip is unknown, but there are various rumors and speculation.

In a dossier on Priyom.org is thought that Pip, MDZhB and Squeaky Wheel parts of a so-called Command & Control System (in Russian: централизованное боевое управление ) are. Also was observed over a prolonged period, that Squeaky wheel has sent a few minutes after Pip voice messages. However, this activity has now been set, newer tables intercepted messages show no such parallels more.
